The Main Ingredient is an American soul and R&B group best known for their 1972 hit song "Everybody Plays the Fool".
The group was formed in Harlem, New York City in 1964 as a trio called the Poets, composed of lead singer Donald McPherson, Luther Simmons, Jr., and Panama-born Tony Silvester. This song was born out of a change in my life, moving from Boston to California . It’s sort of about who I was before, and how I needed to find direction in life. The soul sound was born from my move as well, as I had never really heard any soul music prior to moving here. I fell in love with it and want to help add to and push the new soul movement emerging from Southern California. Soul is a genre that should never die out .more
